Last week, you might remember it was chilly, dipping into the 30’s at night. So, my heater broke or maybe I discovered that my heater was broken. I was cold. My husband and I were in an argument about the DVR (seriously… the DVR… pretty embarrassing now). I was… cranky. Last week the Future Leaders were fasting. We were only eating one cup of beans and one cup of rice because that is what 2/3 of the world’s population eats a day. I was hungry.
As an American, I live and indulge in a culture of abundance. Abundant food, abundant living, abundant comfort, and abundant pleasure, what a blessing! However, this week for the first time, I saw this life of abundance as a curse. For this culture has diminished the magnitude and abundance of God. Of course, God is so much greater than this culture, this earth, this universe, but when the abundances become distractions, the “good fight” is lost. My only response to abundant blessings should be gratitude and praise of the almighty God. So I praise God for He is the provider and thank Him for teaching me compassion through a broken heater and hunger. I praise God for creating marriage and thank Him for an amazing husband.
