During our time in Rwanda, I was greatly honored to shadow and spend time with my buddy Jano Mulindabigwi. When we arrived, Jano was in transition from being World Relief Rwanda’s IT administrator to their Head of Logistics, in which he would now oversee and organize the transportation for incoming groups, various trips into the field, as well as help with the working logistics of the headquarters. With that, you could imagine that Jano was very busy man but thankfully we were able to bond and connect over meals in addition to the ever famous moving day in which he organized the World Relief staff transition into their new offices. The move was quite an experience to be a part of and you will be happy to know the Future Leaders could be seen lending a hand carrying desks, bookshelves and files. It was a true joy for us to be able to do something physically for the World Relief Staff as they had been so welcoming, inviting and continually pouring into us ever since our arrival.
While it was through this experience that I was able to learn more about Jano’s job with World Relief, my favorite experience with him was the Sunday that we were able to spend with our buddy. I attended one of the various churches that Jano’s wife Kristy is a UK Missionary to and I was able to watch first hand their ministry together as they taught in both English and Kinyarwandan to a local congregation. They introduced me to their friends, as if I were family, and we spent the afternoon getting to know one another better, touring the various parts of Kigali, and eating one of the most filling meals I have had all year. The day was incredible and through it all I left with a great friendship, having witnessed Jano’s true character as a hard working, selfless, loving husband & father and a greater understanding of Rwanda, its culture, and the hope for its future.
