FLP Q&A: Allan McCullough

Who are the Future Leaders, really? In order to help you get to know us beyond the basic information on the bio page, we’ll be doing this series of Q & A posts over the next several months. Hopefully these questions will help you get to know who the 2009 Future Leaders really are!

In this post, Allan talks about The Gathering at George Mason University and some of what his hopes for the future are.

Allan and RichDescribe yourself in 50 words or less:
I live in Northern Virginia. I was born in Louisiana. I have a beautiful fiancé named Kim. I do college ministry. I like the Washington Redskins.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I got a BA in Biblical Studies from Messiah College

What are some of the things you do in your job?

I lead our Gathering ministry at George Mason University. Basically, we have planted small churches on the five major college campuses of Washington DC. So really, my job is to be on campus, develop relationships with students, and lead a team of volunteers who are passionate about seeing the gospel change a college campus. Pretty cool…

What would you like to be doing in 10 years?
Some sort of ministry. Honestly, I want to be teaching God’s Word. If it is in the Gathering, I would be thrilled. However, I firmly believe that the Word of God needs to be preached and defended on our college campuses and I hope the Lord allows me to have a part in this.

What’s on your iPod right now?

The Sister Hazel Christmas Album, Taylor Swift, and the Zac Brown Band. Oh, also the Martina McBride Christmas album….classic….

What is your favorite food?
I’ve always loved seafood. However, I think I’m feelin’ a Prime Rib with some fresh Horseradish, mashed potatoes, and gravy….

Favorite restaurant?
Big fan of McCormick and Schmicks. They have an awesome Salmon stuffed with shrimp and crab baked with Brie Cheese on top. Amazing!

What are some other jobs you’ve had in your life?

Lifeguard, Starbucks Coffee Master…

What is your favorite movie? TV show?
Hmm, favorite TV show is definitely Lost. Although Sports Center is an everyday kind of thing. Favorite movie is a tough one for me because I don’t watch a lot of movies.

What exciting places have you been?
Israel, Jordan, Egypt… All very exciting. If you read the Bible, go to Israel. It kind of helps put an image in your mind for everything…

Where would you like to live if you could live anywhere?

Either Boulder, Colorado or Park City, Utah. Love the mountains!

What are you looking forward to in the coming year?

Getting married! 6/27/09! That’s a pretty exciting one right now…

Who have you learned the most from on MBC staff?
I probably have learned the most from John McGowan, the Gathering Pastor. He’s a leader, communicator, and all-around great guy. (Please note the lack of sarcasm).

What books are you currently reading? Who is your favorite author?
Right now I am reading a very exciting book entitled “Church History in Plain Language: 3rd Edition by Bruce Shelley.” Riveting. I think my favorite author(s) are the old Puritan writers from way back in the day. They right with such passion for the Gospel that I believe modern writers have lost.

What do you like to do on your days off?
Nothing. I know that is boring but my life in the Gathering is so crazy that those are days where I have to allow my brain to turn off for a while. Other than that, whenever I can see Kim (my fiancé) that is what I like to do because she lives in Pennsylvania now.
